Our Story


Ainsley Lewis, the founding Director and owner of eTAP, is an experienced computer systems engineer & architect, computer systems analyst, and network and computer systems administrator, with particular expertise in the field of school software development. He first began developing eTAP in the 1990s, designing it as the first SMS in New Zealand to be fully web-based. Since then, Ainsley has built a dedicated development team who continue to innovate and refine, employing the best software advances known to man and machine.

Since its launch, eTAP has grown to be the student management system of choice for primary and intermediate schools in New Zealand.

We have found the helpdesk team incredibly helpful and responsive to our needs, usually with all requests and questions responded to within 30 minutes. All questions and requests are dealt with in a professional manner and in a way that makes it easy for us to follow instructions and use the SMS as we need to. The team are fantastic communicators.

We are able to enter data and information once and use this in a variety of ways, depending on the need, which is ideal for our school.

We find that eTAP are constantly updating and improving their service so it is an effective tool for our school. We have found the attendance, student information, learner hub, reporting and finance sections particularly useful and are investigating how to implement the parent portal to help us streamline communication with our school community. There are features we haven't used but the beauty of eTAP is being able to use it in a way that best meets our needs.

As the administrator for this system, I have been very impressed by the ease of use of this in all areas of school operation- i.e. attendance, data analysis, graphing and table reporting to staff and BOT, the formulation of markbooks and the simplicity of the opening interface that teaching staff use daily.

Any details that I am not sure of are well supported with a quick response from the online help desk. The “eTAP experts” are knowledgeable, supportive and responsive to any queries which is very reassuring for us as a learning and teaching community.

They are amazing in their response time, adjusting a function to meet our requirements and creating a function we need. When I use eTAP I am able to navigate my way around and have a play to find out what it can do. It is really exciting with the improvements and updates that happen. The @school Parent Portal provides whanau with an experience that allows them to update details, view messages, connect with various other facets and school linked portals - making it a 'one stop shop' App. Another great feature is Spotlight, an area of the programme that enables schools to link their School Curriculum to a learning pathway that creates opportunities for students to be agentic in the management of their own learning. The @school Parent Portal has a feature that enables teachers/students to actively communicate student learning goals and accomplishments with whanau. Anytime, anywhere digital reporting procedures can be established reducing workload for teachers.

I love that you only need one web portal to do so many different facets of my job - reducing my workload!
